With regard to using the tindrhorn, do you feel the spark may have been struck into the horn itself just the same as the tinderbox? Or another method?
Have you found any examples of iron tinder boxes besides that one very ornate half brass half iron example youve shown on your blog?
I think the tinder horn was used just to keep the tinder secure & dry, I think the tinder was more than likely removed from the horn & placed in a nest of dry kindling such as grass, & sparks struck on it in the nest.
There were/are a variety of iron tinderboxes, some in the same design as brass ones.
Very nice. I was under the impression the candle holder tinderbox was simply tin. I really like the left side of the last 2 images. Youve shown that tinderbox before. I really like that there MAY have been the possibility of it being a repurposed glasses case.
