We live off grid & off all council services, unfortunately we still have to pay rates, pay a fee to the PP Board & we have to pay a fee for having composting toilets. We get nothing in return for paying these government taxes, so we can't be totally self-reliant & self-sustaining until such time as the shtf & we no longer are ruled by a corrupt government.
This is our solar power shed with solar panels. We decided to put the panels here low down rather than on the house roof because in winter it sometimes snows, & we need to be able to clear the snow off the panels without climbing on the house roof!
This is our Gel battery bank. 12x2 volt batteries making 24 volts DC converted into 240 volts AC.
The power board inside the power shed. Here I can check how much power is in the batteries, & I can check how much power is going into the batteries from the solar panels. We have just had about 3 days of overcast weather, this is the fourth overcast day with intermittent sun. Battery power is showing 27 volts, so that is very good.
This is our 5KVA petrol generator. This is our power back-up just in case we should have a week or more of overcast weather during winter. This generator charges the batteries & powers the house at the same time. Keith.
